A superb Lee Enfield SMLE No.1 MkIII* rifle, dated 1918, representing one of the most iconic British military service rifles of the First World War era. This example has undergone a Factory Thorough Repair (FTR) programme, extending its service life while retaining a high degree of originality.
The rifle bears Serial Number J3319, matching across the bolt, nosecap, barrel, and rear sight, making it a particularly desirable example for collectors. The wrist is stamped "FTR" (Factory Thorough Repair), indicating an official military refurbishment. Based on the barrel markings, the rifle appears to have undergone this programme circa 1924, with the fitted barrel dated accordingly.
Adding further to its originality, the rifle retains its original Enfield-manufactured and marked cocking piece, a detail often lost during military refurbishment programmes.
