SKU: F178
A rare and exceptional example of an Australian military rifle, this Lithgow No.1 MkIII SMLE, serial number A787, is dated 1918 and offers a unique configuration that makes it especially attractive to collectors. Originally manufactured as a MkIII*, the asterisk was later barred out and a magazine cut-off was fitted—making this an uncommon transitional rifle.
Lithgow officially ceased MkIII production in 1916, making this later-modified example particularly unusual. The rifle was rebarrelled in August 1944, and the barrel currently gauges as new at 0.30225, with sharp rifling and a bright bore. It also carries London Nitro Proof marks, indicating its approved transition for civilian ownership.
Marked “4MD”, this rifle was once issued to the 4th Military Division of Australia (South Australia), further adding to its historical provenance. The rifle retains matching serial numbers on the receiver, bolt, barrel, and nosecap. The overall condition, accuracy, and rarity make it an ideal addition for both collectors and shooters alike.
