A very early Longbranch No.4 MK1 (No Star) .303 Rifle, representing an important piece of Canadian wartime production.
Serial Number: 1L2397 – the 12,397th Longbranch rifle made, from almost 1 million rifles.
The rifle features a 1941-dated receiver with a matching numbered bolt, fitted with the correct round cocking piece and MK1 rearsight. The early pattern walnut stock includes a magazine cut-off recess, typical of the earliest Longbranch rifles.
A unique combination of Longbranch and Savage metalwork is present, historically correct as Savage supplied parts for early Longbranch production.
Fitted with a 1942-dated Longbranch 2-groove barrel, numbered to the receiver and gauging 0.30275, the rifle is supplied with a 1943-dated Canadian marked sling. The Union of South Africa markings on the breech add further historical significance.
This rifle is in exceptionally good condition, showing very little signs of use for its age, making it both a fine shooter and highly collectible piece.
