Here we have a 1943 Lithgow sniper rifle. We cannot confirm 100% this is a genuine sniper conversion so it is sold as composed.

.303

R/H

There were some 1942/43 recievers used in the conversions.

This rifle has the correct heavy target barrel marked 'H' on the knoxform.

It is missing the 'H' on the butt wrist and the 'N' on the butt heel. The butt may be a replacement.

The scope and mounts are genuine and are marked with serial No. 766 indicating they came from either HT Sniper No. 27766 medium mount dated 25/1/45 or 67766 medium mount dated 26/4/45.

The scope pads are genuine and lock up tightly with the scope.

The rifle is serial No. F 16958

Skennerton records a HT serial number 16589. It is possible that the serial number was transposed when recorded. Prefixes were not listed.

HT 16589 was made on 13/3/45, making the use of a 1943 dated reciever wholly possible. Skennertons lists are known to contain errors.

The barrel is excellent, bright, with strong rifling.

Gauging at 0.30300 exactly.

Nosecap numbered to rifle as is the bolt.

The scope is correctly marked. Sight telescopic PATT 1918 (AUST) A.O.C dated 1944.

Optics are clear and bright. Correct post and cross wire reticle.

Leather scope caps numbered to rifle '766' with broad arrow and inspector stamps.

This is either a mismatched genuine HT sniper or a clone built with original parts. As we are not 100% therefore it is priced as the latter.
